After a washout of a summer, lots of Brits are putting their shorts and T-shirts away and packing up their paddling pool for another year, as they prepare for the autumn.
For many, the season can’t come soon enough, as they love everything to do with Halloween, toasty fires, and beautiful views of crispy leaves, conkers and bare trees. Many people enjoy Fall for another reason – the wide selection of delicious warm drinks available at this time of the year.
If you own a cafe, takeaway or restaurant, here are some ways you can jazz up your drinks menu to pull in the customers this autumn.
Pumpkin spice latte
Lots of the coffee shop chains will be serving their version of a pumpkin spice latte over the next few months, so it is worth offering the same and competing with the big brands.
This recipe involves stirring pumpkin puree with cinnamon or pumpkin spice, ginger, nutmeg and espresso. Then pour steaming milk into the cup, and sprinkle some more pumpkin spice on the top.
Serve in a takeaway coffee cup, so commuters can grab one on their way to work in the morning to warm themselves up as the temperature begins to drop.
Mulled apple juice
Once the leaves begin to fall, many people like to indulge in a warming glass of mulled wine. However, there are many non-alcoholic versions you could serve to customers instead, including this mulled apple juice.
Simply simmer strips of orange peel, with three cloves and a cinnamon stick in one litre of apple juice. This will let the flavours infuse together before you sweeten with some honey.
This is also a popular option for children, giving them an alternative to hot chocolate when their parents pop by for a coffee.
Spiced hot chocolate
Chocolate fans will know that chilli helps to bring out the flavour and intensity of chocolate.
This is why a spicy hot chocolate drink could be the product that entices passersby into your cafe this autumn.
A creamy hot chocolate infused with ancho chile powder, cinnamon and vanilla is definitely likely to go down well, particularly if served with marshmallows or whipped cream on top.
Make sure you have a big pot of this, as it is likely to be a popular one with children and adults alike!
Matcha latte
Matcha teas and lattes have gained a lot of popularity over the last few years, thanks to its health benefits.
This is because matcha is a type of green tea, which has been grown by being covered with bamboo mats.
The main advantages of matcha is that it can boost heart and brain health, make you feel more alert, improve blood sugar management, aid weight loss, support your bones, and help your gut.
It is also thought to have a calming effect on the nervous system, which is why some people drink it to relieve stress.
Offer your customers matcha latte by using a high-quality matcha powder, hot milk, hot water and honey. After whisking the ingredients together, serve immediately so it retains its frothiness and volume.
Chai latte
Another milky drink that people who aren’t fans of coffee are increasingly asking for these days is chai latte.
This Indian-inspired beverage is made using cinnamon, cardamon, cloves, peppercorns, star anise, ginger, black tea bags, milk and sugar.
Making the beverage from scratch involves a bit of effort, as the spices need to be dry toasted first before they are left to infuse with the ginger, tea bags and boiling water. However, you could pretoast your spices first so they are ready to be used when someone orders a chai latte in your premises.I
