Just as much thought goes into the food at weddings as it does the flowers and gowns these days, so it might surprise you that some brides and grooms would choose to serve their guests fast food instead of a formal sit-down meal.
The decision to order takeaway for friends and family could be down to the increasing cost of weddings.
According to Bridebook, couples typically shell out £19,184 on their Big Day, not including the rings and honeymoon.
Of this, they tend to spend £5,103 catering for 88 guests, which for many people, is a huge amount of money to spend on one meal.
That is why fast food catering could be a good option, helping brides and grooms tie the knot sooner, as they don’t have to save up as much money.
McDonald’s has obviously seen a gap in the market, announcing its first wedding package.
However, only couples in Jakarta, Indonesia, will be able to buy the deal, which includes 100 chicken burgers and 100 boxes of chicken nuggets, or 100 cheeseburgers and 100 chicken fingers.
Packages start at £185 for 200 products, making it much more affordable than traditional catering. There is also the option to hire food stalls and order more food.
The slogan for the unique offer simply says: “Make wedding moments unforgettable.”
By keeping the food options straightforward, brides and grooms can focus on other parts of the wedding. They can also save a substantial amount of money, which they can put towards their honeymoon or starting a life together.
The fast food giant might inspire other takeaway outlets to offer wedding packages, whether they serve guests a variety of pizzas in branded pizza boxes or provide burgers for the evening wedding reception.
One of the ways couples try to keep costs down is to restrict their guest list for the main part of the wedding day and invite more in the evening. This enables them to save expenses at the formal wedding breakfast.
By doing away with three-course meals, they can invite as many people as they want to the whole day, allowing more of their loved ones to see them walk down the aisle.
Instead of having everyone sit down for dinner afterwards, they can host a more informal buffet of takeaway foods or hire a catering company to cook barbecues, hog roasts or paella portions on the grounds.
Not only does this cut costs, but it creates a more relaxed and fun atmosphere, which might be right up the couples’ street.
It also means they can avoid having difficult conversations about table plans, seating arrangements, speeches, who sits on the top table, and wine pairings.
After all, that is the least enjoyable part of planning a wedding for many people.
Instead, they can indulge in their favourite street foods, from fish and chips or pizzas to kebabs or sweet and sour chicken.
